liner - liner means that it is a story with a beginning and a end all in order for example kingsman has a liner story for beginning to end
non liner - a non- liner story is where the ins no real progression for example pulp fiction or momento has a story that is not in order for the story and uses this to show there story in there films
Binary opposites - binary opposites are where there are to opposing objects for example good vs evil or light and dart or day and night, this can help the story as it can have the ability to make you know who you are rooting for in the narrative and who you want to win.
flashbacks - looking into the past helps the narrative move forward in the story and can give you a better understanding of certain parts of the film, story, locations or characters .
Open end narrative is a cliffhanger where the story has no real ending and can be used to make possible use of a sequel and to cause tension and suspense so that more people will go to the next film to find out the conclusion.
what is single camera work: single camera work is a production with only one camera for example game of thrones, age of ultron and many more tv and movie productions. the type of camera production is a lot easier than multi camera production as it is easily transportable to other movie locations around and is cheaper to transport around. the advantages of having this type of camera set up is that it helps the actors focus on that one camera and can make there acting directed to that camera rather than having multiple camera directed at the actor so it will be harder for them to act efficiently.
Game of Thrones
Editingthe analysis of the Game of Thrones the editing in the scene was quite basic , there was no complicated transitions as it was a very important scene to watch so the editing wasn't overly complicated. it was a continues scene that jumped from all the characters points of views and there reactions to jofferys death, from the queen mother to the hand of the king to tyrion they where all shocked at what was going on. they was the shots go straight to the pie when it turns up is a good transition to take your guard of for what is about to happen so you dont expect joffery (one of the most evil and main characters) to die at that very moment.
Mise en scene
The costumes in this particular scene are colourful and long, showing that these people are uper class. The king is in the middle of the set with the other characters sitting around him, showing that he is the king and that he has a lot of power. He also has a golden crown resting on top of his head. His costume and positioning in this scene show how intimidated the other characters are, and how he considers himself more important. The most important prop in this scene, however, is the goblet that he uses and drinks out off .The goblet is made from bronze or gold, and using this as an object to drink wine out of again shows how important and how much power and money he has. Being poisoned by drinking out of the goblet shows that it was unexpected.
Camera and Lighting
during this scene joffery who is the king is killed by poisen and the camera is switching between everyone who is at at the table and their facial expressions and how their reacting to what happend to the king the lighting is shown to be naturel and like its day time which shows us that its a normal day with the king and his servants and then he gets poisoned so its very unexpected and sudden and no many people would have expected it to happen
Sound
In this scene of game of thrones there is a obvious grudge between jeoffrey and tyrion, each shot through the scenes creates more and more tension until the moment where jeoffrey is killed by the poisen goblet which makes jeoffrey blame the murder on tyrion because he was the one that served him the wine hense the dramatic music when the character jeoffrey points at the other character 'tyrion'. During the dialogue there are birds in the background just so the viewers hear it thinking it is more realistic and is happening in a very populated setting, the dialogue clearly creates meaning and tension between the two main characters in this scene, the dialogue creates meaning for the audience because they can understand it.
3 Minuets
Mise en scene This short film feels as though it is set at some point in the future. This is shown in the props. One of the first shots we see is a long silver barrel in someone's jean pocket. In comparison to the drab clothing and dark lighting, it stands out. The costumes are dirty, showing that they have been in them for a long time. This leaves us to wonder what has happened to them previously but also gives us an idea of what may happen next. If they were in bright, expensive clothing, you would expect something completely different. The hair and makeup has been done to tie in with the costumes, and make them look dirty/scruffy. They have dirt and cuts on their face, and their hair is messy.
Camera and Lighting
In this short filming the lighting is very natural and pure which makes it easy to tell what time of day it is and how the weather conditions are. with the light looking pure and clean we can tell that they are outside and that its a sunny day wherever they are filming. The camera movements within the production is very fast paced and edited quite a lot which makes the viewer more interested about whats going on and whats going to happen.
Editing
In 3 minutes it is a very simplistic type of idea. there is no real story build up but the story that is presented makes some scence, there are no real transitions in this short film but the editing is done very well. in the short film there is a big long action sequence and there are lots of long shots and close ups, this gives a lot of ways to make it look cleaner and more interesting to watch as you can see the fight from different angles and to not be a boring one shot film as you wouldn't be able to see what was going on in the fight.
Sound
During the beginning of the video the music kicks in straight away and gives the feeling of a fast pace action feeling, a sense of achievement and challenging'ness also is given to the viewer as the character runs out chasing another character. The sound goes quiet when one of the characters escapes and finds a lightsaber, it gives out the feeling of intensity with the silence mixing in goes well. There is a repetitive beat in the background when they both come face to face giving the viewers the excitement of a showdown/ battle. As they both attack each other the music progressively gets louder and bolder like it is building up creating intensity and excitement, towards the end of the video the music reaches one of its highest moments and then to find out that the character had failed it began to decrease in a darker and deeper tone giving out the sense of danger and more excitement.
Drive
Mise en scenemain character pushes the women to the side of the elevator and as he does this the music slowly creeps up onto the video as the video become slower and slower the music becomes louder but giving it a soft feeling showing affection and emotion as he goes to kiss the women. When the kiss stops so does the music and the silence adds tension as the character turns around to the other male character in the elevator, as they begin to fight just the connections between each of the characters add a sort of tension but gives it a scarier feeling and it shows you that this affectionate person just turns straight away into someone that kills another person. The crushing of the characters skull with the raw silence of the shot creates a horror /intensified feeling and creates tension between the female character and the other character as well as with the viewers of the film.
Camera and Lighting: The lighting in this scene is relatively dark, however, it gets darker as the characters kiss, then when they stop, it becomes brighter. The dark lighting in this scene is supposed to shown how closed in they are inside the elevator, no doors or windows, no escape. This is used to build tension as you know that there's 3 characters there, and that one of them is bad. There is no way out from the small lift, so something is about to happen. Sound:
The sound is quiet, it starts with just the sound of the elevator doors. This builds tension as you're waiting for someone to say something and for the action to start. The main then character pushes the woman to the side of the elevator. As he does this music slowly creeps into the video as the video become slower and slower the music becomes louder but giving it a soft feeling; showing affection and emotion as he goes to kiss the woman. When the kiss stops so does the music and the silence sets in once again.
Editing
The editing in this clip is very intersting as it is very basic in the scence that it is only one location and is a very small one at that. how the editing is done and the camera angles is very powerfull for example when the gun is shown in the mans pocket and the slow mothin scene when the woman and the other man are kissing, this make it so you are very unaware of what is about to happen and it is very unexpected giving the scene more effect when the audience watches it.0
Compare
If you compare these clips you realise that they all have there similarities and differences. im game of thrones the action is very slow and this is very simular to dive until the action unexpectedly happens but in 3 minutes there is action all the way through the film and there isn't really any part off it that isn't action packet. the camera and lighting are quite similar for 3 minutes and game of thrones because they are both set in places outside and in hot places but in drive they are in a inclosed space so not much lighting can come through apart from artificial lighting so it is significantly different than the other two. the mise en scene is very much different for all of the clips as they are all from different situations and different locations so to compare them there will be no similarities for all of these clips for mise en scene as one is medieval. one is present day and another is syfy. there are also similarities in editing as in the elevator drive clip and the came of thrones there edited to be very slow paced and drag on alot to progress the story but in the 3 minute clip there are lots of jump cuts and transitions as the action progresses and that is my comparison on the 3 clip i have analysed.
