evaluation - social action

Link - Trans Awareness video

Evaluation -

For our social action production we decided it will be a good idea to talk about trans awareness issues. we came to this idea because of the facts we discovered about being trans in the UK so this was a good topic to use as there are not many awareness videos talking about this and not enough coverage. Our video is about a you transgender man getting though his day as he is targeted with abuse and discrimination they face in just one of many days they have to deal with in there lives.

The feedback we got for are video was extremely positive and we are very happy of this outcome as it means that are video has done what we set out to do which was to show how transgender people have to live in the UK and to make people talk about the issue. The main positive feedback we received was the music choice, the music that we used was a song sang and written by Emma Blackery who we contacted to use her music as it fit the video very well and created an emotional response when viewing the video . One of the other positive points for are video was the editing, the editing was very well done thanks to are editor Max who is very skilled in the editing process and managed to make a beautiful video for are social action with the scenes we filmed together.one of such examples of this is the beginning where everything is well put together to show a very smooth and linear narrative.

The negative feedback we received in are video was the use of font to show what the individuals in the music video where saying and this made it difficult for the viewers to see what we where trying to say and this made it harder for us to get our message across. Lighting was also a flaw in our video as it was sometimes hard to see what was going on in some of the scenes, one of these examples would be when the mum in the video is looking into the camera and it is very difficult to see her and the face she is making. one of such examples of the writing being hard to read would be then the grandfather is expressing his point of view, so other feedback we got from the font choice is that it didn't the theme of the video it was shown in as there could of been a better choice such as Ariel.

Time for T.E.A

One of the videos we used for inspiration is LGBT Scotland's "Time of T.E.A"  which is a video showing a trans student walking through a school hallway where other students judge them. we used a very similar set up with the way the thoughts are shown with the words being shown next to the people saying what they feel and are thinking. what differs this video from theres is our video elaborates on the idea rather that it just being set in a school hallway it shows an entire day of a trans person. this will mean that our video will show a more impactful and more in-depth insight into the lives of these people and how it can effect them on a larger scale rather. the problem with there video is that there is no relatable aspects or emotion with theses characters making it hard to feel anything for the the main character or the people around them. in our video we have a narrative with the people and you feel more emotion with them because of the music and the relatable aspects of the characters it add a more believable merit to are video.

Stand up for your friends

This video is very different to ours in any ways. One of the ways this is shown is that there is dialog between the different actors showing that they have more emotion so in turn this makes it easier for feel an connection with the actors . the message they are trying to get across was clear as the awareness message in this video is to stand up for your friends and to stand by them no matter what there differences may be and this video shows this with the group of friends always being there for the person in the video, the camera shots and the lighting gave the shots a very professional look and where well done compared to our video as we tried to make it look gloomy to represent the feelings and emotion of are message but it didn't really pay off in the final edit of the video.

In conclusion i feel that our video hit all the points we wanted to make getting a clear message across on the importance of trans awareness and the emotion it triggered with the music and the situations displayed in the video. this video shows how transphobia in this country can affect individuals who are transgender or know friends and family that are transgender. Overall this video was a success because of the majorly positive feedback we received and how we can improve this video to make it even better and more of a success. even in its current state i am happy with the video we created and the level of professionalism i feel are high and good enough to be used on other platforms because of previous videos iv see that appear and in my opinion are not as affective of our video.
