unit 8 evaluation

Evaluation

Our advert me and my group thought was very creative and unique but was hard to pull off, this advert idea relied on green screen and commitment to the group. Are idea was to have a superhero bet Dan that his speed super power was faster than his phone and "volt-man looses the bet". This is showing that 4G is "faster than a superhero”. We have managed to create this idea from Dan’s imagination, as it was his original idea.

Most of the group worked well with each other but unfortunately not very productive in the production of the advert. I will admit we did cut corners in respect with the footage and the idea and I accept that this was not okay on my part and on other members of the group. At the beginning we had the idea of Dan doing more while he waited for voltman to return but it would have taken too long and it wasn’t need for a 30 second advert. We had a lot of changes for the locations for example we was originally going to film in Manchester central but we ended up setting for a closer place in the area called Stanford park. In the park most of the footage was filmed apart from the green screen and the few shots filmed in the courtyard. We have tried to accomplish a creative idea that would be unique to us and that other adverts would not have thought about, are idea of a superhero has been used but not in this sort of context or how it was executed. The costume wasn’t exactly Hollywood budgeted but it was well designed and worked well with the advert.

In this group we all ad specific roles to complete this project, Seth was production manager and had to put all our pre-production work and post-production on blogger. He was in charge of group decisions and if the work was to a good standard, he has informed me that all the work is done and up ready for submission. Seth was also one of the actors in the production and he did a good job of playing a superhero. Dan editor and did a very good job at putting together all the video footage with help with Brendan. He did a great job with the green screen and managed to be the second actor in the advertisement, he also created the idea of the advert as it was his creative idea. Brendan was director and he did a good job with deciding what shots to take and did an excellent job of being the sound operator for most of the project. His direction skill could be improved but he did well enough to tell us the shots we needed and we needed to re do some of the audio I was a camera operator for this unit and I did some sound work and a bit of directing when needed I felt I did quite well with the shots and the directing, the sound work could have been improved but I felt I did the required amount that was need at the time.

For my personal feedback I asked my peers what they evaluated about how well I did my job and my weaknesses and strengths.

-         Dan – “you worked well when you was willing to and good ate getting various with the camera”

Strengths – could work in a team, did well with the camera equipment

Weaknesses – could have been better at getting the work done, be more motivated when doing assignments

As we started this idea of are advert we didn’t realise how hard it would be to implement onto the big screen, the costume was something that was difficult to make as we couldn’t fine the original material to create it which was a full body nylon costume but we couldn’t find any at a good price so we had to budget are own using a Arabian costume from a shop and re-designing it. We had another problem with the name of the superhero where we needed to rename him as his original name was Super Seth but on his chest it would have had the letters “SS” and this would have been inappropriate for the advert. Changes for the storyboard needed to be changed because of time restraints and the fact that they really were not needed in the final edit which has not been fully completed as of yet and this has caused a few complications and I accept and take responsibility for the fact that the production has not been completed yet but we have had some feedback for the already edited parts.

-         “It was a good idea that is unique but obviously need to be finished for it to be a good advert”

-         “Because this advert isn’t completely finished I can’t really give ant good feedback but the camera work that is in the footage so far is of good standard”

I would like to resubmit the work given the time as of when this advertisement would be completed.

To compare with other adverts I will compare are footage that we filmed to another EE advert.

The Kevin Bacon Explains 4G on EEs Adverts

In this advert all of the phones 4g applications and improvements are shown in this advert .in our advert this is also the same sort of set up but a lot more condensed style of information. They also have a sort of gimmick that everything revolves around Kevin Bacon and we have the same sort of thing where our superhero is faster than 4g these are the sorts of similarities between these two adverts

Strengths of our advert

-  The idea was done well

-  The gimmick was creative

Weaknesses

-  It is not completely finished

-  The acting was not as good

Strengths of the EE advert

- There was good acting and effects

- Good ideas and well executed information

Weaknesses

- It was too long

- had to keep up with all the information

In conclusion our group worked well with each other and we managed to get so close to completely finishing the advert it is very unfortunate that it is did not get completed on time but I can guaranty it will be finished soon.
